Take AP Psychology!
I have taught Advanced Placement Psychology classes since 2009, and I've used a book intended for the class for longer than that (the ubiquitous Myers textbook in an earlier edition), so I write from experience. The students who studied AP psychology with me not only enjoyed the experience (all right, a FEW didn't -- it's a tough course!) but also got more worthwhile information out of it than any other course I have ever taught. Not all of my students have gone on to get a perfect score of 100% on the exam (although one did, and she went to my alma mater, Harvard afterward), but even students who struggled mightily found they could leverage what they learned to their advantage. One student, who barely passed the course majored in music therapy and now has started a career as a music therapist working with autistic kids. Difficult work, yes, but what a worthwhile use of what she learned! The world is a better place because of her work.
The course material is worth mastering for so many reasons. Working with children - your own or someone else's? Developmental psychology will help. Studying the visual arts? Gestalt psychology principles will apply. Struggling with your emotions? Stress? Problem-solving issues? All of these and more are at the heart of the course, and all that you learn about them will help you manage your life better.
From my own point of view as an educator, the units about learning and memory stand out. Each time I've taught them, I've helped students find in the principles they learn ways to apply them in life. As a tutor, I do the same thing. Understanding psychology -- the many aspects that a good Advanced Placement course will allow you to experience -- not only enriches your understanding, but it also enriches your life.
